Many young people in our church have gone on to work with a variety of Christian organisations, in this country & abroad.

In recent years my own son spent a year in Belgium, as a Youth Worker in a church & local schools. He is now back home & working as Outreach Youth Worker on a large housing estate.

We have one young lady who has recently married & both she & her husband are now working with BMS in France.

Another young man has just completed a year working with The Pais Project in Manchester, performing in a band. Pais offer free internships, a variety of courses ranging from bands to social action teams & operates all over Britain & abroad. To Learn more about the Work of Pais click here. Link .

One young lady who has just completed her degree course in Psychology is now heading off to Canada, also working with the Pais Project. She will be working within a team of 7 young people. Each of them will be placed in a church in Ontario & will be going into local schools, building relationships with the students & creating contacts between them & the churches.

Her sister is working with a church in Torquay & has spent some time working & training with South West Youth Ministry. She is now planning to do further Post Graduate study.

Historically Salem has had young people going abroad as Missionaries to further the work of Christ as far back as our history reaches. Missionary work is very different now from the times when people set of for far flung continents, not knowing what awaited them, and often not knowing when or if they would return. The aims of mission are still the same, to take the message of Christ to those who do not yet know him, but nowadays in a more practical way. You could be helping to rebuild houses & infastructure in areas such as those affected by the Sunami in December  2004. You could teach English or a foreign language, or work in an orphanage or local school.

With so many organisations to choose from, all of them offering much support to their young people, there is something for everybody, from short term (typically from a couple of weeks to one year) or long term (two years or more). There are both paid & voluntary positions in a huge choice of skills.

If you would like to discover more about available opportunities click on any of the following links. BMS World Mission, Mission Finder or view the various organisations on our Links page. Alternatively type Mission opportunities in a search engine.
